James M. ‘Jim’ Guido

ORANGE CITY — James M. “Jim” Guido, 66, died Feb. 19, 2017.
Mr. Guido was born near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and raised in St. Albans, Vermont, and Orlando by his parents, retired U.S. Air Force noncommissioned officer David J. Guido, and his wife, Jeanne.
Jim is survived by his wife, Donna Robinson Guido of Orange City; his sister, Anna-Sue Guido of Gainesville; and his brothers, Michael Guido of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Mark Guido of Orlando, and their families.
He was a devoted, loving father and grandfather to daughter Christina Guido and her son, Caleb Dent; daughter Brandi Guido Barber and husband David, and their son, U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Skilar Guido, and their daughter, Autumn Barber; his son, James Guido and wife Jennifer, and their daughter, Reese, and their son, Nash; stepson Stephen Lenzi and stepdaughter Cherie Lenzi, and their mother, Paula Griffin Guido, and their family, all of Central Florida; and stepdaughter Valerie Holmes and her family, all of Central Florida.
Jim served as a medic in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and then built a 30-plus-year career in sheet metal and HVAC contracting, a tradecraft he also introduced to his younger brother and eldest stepson.
Jim shared his lifelong enthusiasm for music and motorcycles with his family and many cherished friends.
For many years, Jim, his wife and their extended family especially looked forward to spending Bike Week together with many dear visiting friends. This year, they all joined Jim in a final ride and service to memorialize him in passing as he was known in life — with laughter and love.

ORLANDO — Jeanette "Smitty"“Nettie Bug” Meisel, 89, died March 30, 2017. A funeral service was held April 3 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Orlando.
Mrs. Meisel was born Sept. 3, 1927, in DeLand, to Horace Smith and Louise Fountain.
She was a 1945 graduate of DeLand High School.
Jeanette’s occupation was as a daughter, wife and mother; a friend to many; a counselor and baker; and a bookkeeper for Ford Tractor Co. in DeLand, and the list goes on and on.
She was a lifelong Central Florida resident, who generously gave her time and talents to family, friends, neighbors and the community.
Jeanette is survived by her children, Karen (David), Steve (Janice), Cathy, Kevin (Bobbi) and Teresa (Mike); her grandchildren, Rachel (Charlie), Kevin (Laura), Sarah, Julia, Daniel, Brian, Monica, Meghan (Jamie), Lauren and Evan; and cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Meisel, her parents and her sisters.

DELTONA — Pauline A. Venturello, 99, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, died April 7, 2017.
Pauline was a native of New York City, moved to Florida in 1965, and resided in Deltona for the past 20 years.
She was devoted to her family, and lived a full, active life until her passing.
Pauline is survived by her son, Louis J. (Colleen) Venturello of Deltona; three grandchildren, Louis P. Venturello of Jacksonville, Derek J. (Leah) Venturello of Orlando, and Kelly M. Venturello, also of Jacksonville; three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Skylar and Roman Venturello; and her sister, Vera (Bruno) Talevi of Cooperstown, New York.
Pauline was the most caring and giving example of unconditional love. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.

He was a bartender at many locations in DeLand, and also worked as a traveling salesman.

Rolando Carrasquillo

Rolando Carrasquillo, 52, died April 4, 2017, surrounded by his other half Sandra Chall, and his family. A celebration of his life will be around noon Saturday, April 15, at his home. Everyone is welcome. There will be plenty of Ron stories to go around.
Rolando was born June 5, 1964, in Jersey City, New Jersey.
He had three brothers, and attended William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City.
Rolando loved to travel around the country.
He worked as a truck driver and a furniture mover in New York, and even opened a restaurant with his brother Stanley in Virginia.
He later settled as a professional plumber and all-around handyman, whom other handymen frequently called for help.
He was happiest with a project to complete, whether it was plumbing or house-remodeling, or helping a friend or family member troubleshoot their own house repair.
Rolando is survived by his other half, Sandra Chall; his brother Rick and sister-in-law, Stevie, and their two children, Ricci and Raven; his son and daughter, Orlando and Kristi; and grandson Hendrix.

Cindy G. Merriman-Martin

DELAND — Cindy G. Merriman-Martin, born May 5, 1952, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away in her sleep on April 4, 2017, at the age of 64.
After many dedicated years of service with the Department of Energy in Los Alamos, New Mexico, she was enjoying her later years with her beloved husband, Gerald Martin, in their DeLand home.
Cindy was the beloved mother of Tom Martin, Russell Martin and Dawn Hill, sadly leaving them behind, as well as 12 cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Seright, and brothers Larry and William Merriman; her deeply loved nieces and nephews, Michelle, Crystal, Sean and Ryan, as well as eight grandnieces and grandnephews.
Loved and cherished by all, she will be greatly missed.

Robert G. O’Shea

DELTONA — Robert G. O’Shea, 70, died Feb. 27, 2017, at home. A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Café DaVinci, 112 W. Georgia Ave. in Downtown DeLand. Robert’s children, Mike and Maureen, invite their father’s friends and fellow musicians to help celebrate his life.
Mr. O’Shea was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 1, 1946.
He graduated in 1964 from North Shore High School in Glen Head, New York, and attended Nassau Community College.
Robert served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
He worked for IBM for 12 years in New York City, transferring down to their Orlando office in 1978.
Robert continued in the field until he opened his music-recording studio Trilogy in DeLand, and began playing in local bands.
He was a well-known and respected musician throughout the West Volusia area.
Robert is survived by his son, Michael R. O’Shea of Deltona; daughter Maureen O’Shea Sickles (Brian) of Red Wing, Minnesota; brothers Walter L. O’Shea of Central Islip, New York, Richard J. O’Shea (Rita) of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and William A. O’Shea (Diane Jones) of Marion, Virginia; and sister Millicent M. Kronkowski (Andy). He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter L. and Doris Davis O’Shea.
